]]>This global urgency reveals a fundamental truth: business depends on nature, and nature is directly shaped by the way business is done.
Fair Trade Enterprises are leading the way, redefining what success in business truly looks like. They ask the right questions — where does this product come from? What is the true cost of bringing it into the world? — and they continuously seek to improve by upholding the 10 Fair Trade Principles, striving for the highest standards over time. This way of operating is neither arbitrary nor opportunistic. It is a deliberate approach to building business models that serve our planet and, in doing so, the people of today and the generations that follow.
On World Environment Day, we invite you to rethink what business success really means, from the origin of raw materials to the end of a product’s life, through regenerative and circular models that put people and planet first.

]]>The Charter embodies a collective vision that reaffirms the core principles of Fair Trade, including social and economic justice and environmental sustainability. With diverse actors playing actively in the global Fair Trade movement, the Charter serves as the single international reference point for Fair Trade.
It has three main aims:
1. To support the work of Fair Trade Enterprises in raising awareness among consumers and citizens of the importance and impact of Fair Trade, so that more people will be inspired to join and support it.
2. To facilitate collaboration among Fair Trade Enterprises by connecting their specific missions and strategies with the common philosophy of the movement.
3. To enable others who work with Fair Trade Enterprises (in government, academia or the private sector) to recognise the values and approaches that unite the global movement.

]]>Every second Saturday of May, WFTO celebrates World Fair Trade Day to shine a spotlight on the transformative power of the Fair Trade business model and its positive impact on people’s lives and communities. For 2026, the theme of the campaign is: Together we are the Business Revolution!
This edition is about our planet. The foundation beneath everything we do, everything we make, and everything we stand for. At WFTO, we believe that business models rooted in the 10 Fair Trade Principles are one of the most powerful forces we have for real, lasting change; for our communities, our ecosystems, and the world we are leaving behind. Ours is a global network of doers, makers, and changemakers rooted in collaboration and shaping the future of business. Artisans, designers, farmers, shoppers, advocates, we are in this together. And together, we are the Business Revolution!
To celebrate World Fair Trade Day on 9 May, we have prepared a global video campaign activity called Loud and Fair. This call-to-action invites you to raise your voice through short, personal video messages, creating a powerful, people-driven statement on why Fair Trade Business Models matter. Learn more about this activity here.
World Fair Trade Day serves as a global platform to raise awareness about Fair Trade principles and practices, promoting social and economic justice. By showcasing the success stories of Fair Trade Enterprises, WFTO aims to inspire consumers, businesses, and policymakers to embrace Fair Trade as a powerful tool for creating a more equitable and sustainable world. World Fair Trade Day reinforces WFTO’s commitment to fostering Fair Trade relationships and driving systemic change for a new global economy.

]]>If you are a woman working for a Fair Trade Enterprise, you are four times as likely to achieve a senior management position, become CEO or join the Board than you would be working for a conventional business. Much more than this: if you are a woman working or producing for a Fair Trade Enterprise, you will be recognised, you will be counted, your rights will be respected, you will be visible and your voice will be heard.
Fair Trade Enterprises have gender justice at the heart of what they do, believing that we will never achieve sustainable development if women’s full potential is not realised.
During this week, we as WFTO want to amplify the voices of women artisans, farmers, and workers who play a crucial role in shaping a more equitable and sustainable global economy. By highlighting their stories and successes, we aim to inspire positive change in communities and enterprises worldwide.
