It is a deliberate approach to building business models that serve our planet and, in doing so, the people of today and the generations that follow.

Every second Saturday of May, WFTO celebrates World Fair Trade Day to shine a spotlight on the transformative power of the Fair Trade business model and its positive impact on people’s lives and communities. For 2026, the theme of the campaign is: Together we are the Business Revolution!

This edition is about our planet. The foundation beneath everything we do, everything we make, and everything we stand for. At WFTO, we believe that business models rooted in the 10 Fair Trade Principles are one of the most powerful forces we have for real, lasting change; for our communities, our ecosystems, and the world we are leaving behind. Ours is a global network of doers, makers, and changemakers rooted in collaboration and shaping the future of business. Artisans, designers, farmers, shoppers, advocates, we are in this together. And together, we are the Business Revolution!

To celebrate World Fair Trade Day on 9 May, we have prepared a global video campaign activity called Loud and Fair. This call-to-action invites you to raise your voice through short, personal video messages, creating a powerful, people-driven statement on why Fair Trade Business Models matter. Every year, we at WFTO observe Fashion Revolution Week to support and amplify the mission of promoting transparency and ethical practices in the fashion industry, from producers to consumers. Fair Trade Enterprises are changemakers, showing that the fashion industry can change by ensuring fair wages, and environmental protection while making beautiful and lasting clothes. 

Through Fashion Revolution Week, we strive to inspire collective change and encourage the adoption of ethical and responsible practices throughout the fashion supply chain and beyond.

If you are a woman working for a Fair Trade Enterprise, you are four times as likely to achieve a senior management position, become CEO or join the Board than you would be working for a conventional business. Much more than this: if you are a woman working or producing for a Fair Trade Enterprise, you will be recognised, you will be counted, your rights will be respected, you will be visible and your voice will be heard. 

Fair Trade Enterprises have gender justice at the heart of what they do, believing that we will never achieve sustainable development if women’s full potential is not realised.

During this week, we as WFTO want to amplify the voices of women artisans, farmers, and workers who play a crucial role in shaping a more equitable and sustainable global economy. By highlighting their stories and successes, we aim to inspire positive change in communities and enterprises worldwide.
